Standard Qualification Requirements

Including two of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics Excluding Critical Thinking, Thinking Skills, and General Studies (if taken)

Candidates are required to have an Advanced Higher in at least one from Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, and two Highers from Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.

Some Access courses allow students to take one or two A-levels as part of the course. This option is strongly recommended for students who wish to apply to Oxford, especially for those courses which have specific subject requirements. The Medical School welcomes applications from candidates with combinations such as: - BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science - BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science plus 1 A-level - BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate or Foundation Diploma in Applied Science plus 2 A-levels (one of which must be in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Mathematics) We also accept applications from candidates with 2 A-levels in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Mathematics, plus a BTEC Level 3 qualification in another subject. Applicants will be required to achieve grades of D*DD or the equivalent. We do not accept BTEC qualifications of any level in Health & Social Care or Sport & Exercise Science in place of Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Mathematics.

Pre-U subject requirements are the same as those for A-levels.

If not taken on to a higher level (A-level or equivalent), all candidates will need to show that they have received a basic education (achieving at least a grade C/4 at GCSE, Intermediate 2 or Standard grade (Credit) or equivalent) in Biology, Chemistry, Physics (GCSE Dual Award Combined Sciences or equivalent is also acceptable) and Mathematics.
