Course Summary

This course will involve you working with vulnerable groups of individuals, including children. Duration of this course is 3 years (1 year for Foundation Year and after completion, guaranteed place on the Foundation Degree Health and Social Care which is a further two years). By meeting the course-specific requirements during the Foundation Entry year this course gives students the opportunity to acquire the entry requirements needed to gain entry onto the Foundation Degree Health and Social Care at University Campus Oldham. If you choose to undertake the Foundation Degree Health and Social Care, successful completion of the two-year programme will also give you access to the third year of the BSc (Hons) Top Up Health and Social Care, so you will have the opportunity to study a full Honours Degree programme. Both programmes provide access to a range of exciting graduate careers.

Course Details - Modules

Applied Anatomy and Physiology You’ll study the anatomy and physiology of the body. You’ll learn how this may be affected by illness, disease or injury and how to apply these key principles. Academic Writing and Studying in Health and Social Care. This module aims to introduce you to the principles of academic writing and studying to prepare you for your academic career. Learning Development and using Information Communication Technology to present information This module aims to develop key reflective skills and critical thinking to enable students to internally reflect on their current practice and also interpret research and apply this to practice. Developing Skills for Delivering Health and Social Care (1) This module aims to develop your understanding of the professional skills required in Health and Social Care. You’ll gain intrapersonal and interpersonal skills as well as identify your individual development as a professional. Developing Professional Skills for Delivering Health and Social Care (2) This module aims to support you in applying your understanding of professional skills needed in the Health and Social Care sector. You will particularly focus on collaborative communication, teamwork skills and developing professional qualities and values which are essential for working in Health and Social Care. Measuring Health and Wellbeing This module will introduce you to health interventions at all levels, including government policy and individual practice. You will understand the key sources of evidence and develop skills in the interpretation and analysis of these interventions.
