**I have three post-A level languages**
Choose from:
- French
- German
- Russian
- Spanish
In addition to core language modules, you will choose from optional modules relating to the history, culture, politics, literature, film or linguistics of your chosen languages.
If you are studying a beginners’ language, you may take fewer optional modules in the first year, so that you can concentrate on intensive language acquisition.
The exciting experience of the year abroad develops your communication skills, builds your confidence and helps you stand out to future employers. You have three options: teaching English in a school; studying at one of our partner universities, or working anywhere your chosen language is spoken.
This course is also available with a Foundation Year.
Course Details - Modules
In year one, if you have three post-A level languages, you will take 40 credits in each of your three languages. This is split into 20 credits of core language modules and 20 credits of core or optional modules.
If you have two post-A level languages and one beginners' language, you will also take 40 credits in each of the languages. However, whereas in your post-A level subjects you will take 20 credits of core language and 20 credits of core or optional modules, your beginners subject will be comprised of 40 credits of core language modules.
In year two you will take 20 credits of language modules in each of your languages, and 20 credits of optional modules in each of your languages.
You will spend your third academic year abroad. You will divide your time between countries where your chosen language(s) are spoken. Depending on where your placement is, you could study at one of our exchange universities, teach on the British Council assistantship programme, or undertake a work placement with a company.
You will spend year four back at Nottingham. As with year two you will take 20 credits of language modules in each of your languages, and 20 credits of optional modules again in each of your languages.
Placement and volunteering opportunities are available in the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies, as well as via the Nottingham Advantage Award.
