Course Summary

A year in industry will improve your employability and help prepare you for a successful career in artificial intelligence. On this four-year course, your third year will be spent working in industry. Working in a real company will give you lots of valuable experience and skills. Some students secure a paid placement. This course will focus on advanced areas of artificial intelligence to give you an expert understanding of this field. You will explore topics such as user experience design, autonomous systems and machine learning. This tailored programme will give you key skills and knowledge to help start a career in an increasingly innovative industry. You'll also study the fundamental areas of computer science. Our teaching and modules are linked to our own specialised research groups, giving you a wide range of optional modules to choose from. This also means you will be taught by experts in their field who use their own active research to support their teaching. You may recognise some of our tutors from the Computerphile YouTube series. To help support our students, we offer an Excellence in Computer Science scholarship which ranges from 10-50% off your tuition fees. This course is Accredited by the British Computer Society. You will have the flexibility to transfer between computer science courses after your first year. This can include courses with an international year or an MSci degree.

Course Details - Modules

In year three, you will work on a placement with a real company in the industry. This will improve your employability and give you lots of valuable skills and experience. This can be in any area of artificial intelligence that you would like to pursue as a career. In the first year, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence. This will give you a broad knowledge of the field, such as AI search techniques, data mining, and ethics. You will learn the foundations of computer science. This will include modules on programming languages such as C, Java and Haskell. In your second year, you will study more advanced modules in artificial intelligence. This will build on your knowledge from the first year. You'll learn about topics such as AI techniques and algorithm efficiency. Optional modules are also available for you to study topics that you are personally interested in. These include human-computer interaction or C++ programming. Year four offers a wide range of flexibility. We offer lots of optional modules so you can choose what you study and tailor your degree to your own interests. Our modules are linked to our own research groups. This means we are able to offer a wide variety of topics.
