**The new Higher National Certificate in Public Services course is designed to equip students with the skillsets, knowledge and understanding necessary to achieve high performance in the fast-changing public services environment. Potential applicants should note that from September 2023, we also plan to offer a Higher National Diploma top-up course.** **About the course** The new courses will help develop the skills required in public services management (both uniformed and non-uniformed); e.g. HM Armed Forces, Revenue and Customs, the Emergency Services, Prison Service and the charity or voluntary sectors. The emphasis is on developing leadership, team-building, communication and organisational skills. The course will provide insight and understanding into the wide range of roles within the public services, recognising the importance of collaboration at all levels and to equip students with knowledge and understanding of multi-faceted societies and organisations, cross-cultural issues, and an appreciation of diversity and core values. **First year (HNC) modules may include:** - Organisational Structures and Culture - Mental Health and Wellbeing - Equality, Diversity and Fair Treatment - Public Services in Contemporary Society - Personal and Professional Development - Crime and Substance Misuse - Personnel Protection in Civil Protection Agencies - Event Management and Safety - Psychology of Behaviour **Second year (HND) modules may include:** - Research Project - Reflective Professional Practice - Physical Activity, Lifestyle and Health - International Policing - Training, Coaching and Mentoring Techniques - Youth Offending - Offender Management - Resource and Talent Planning **Assessment** Individual and group assessments may include: written reports, presentations, projects, also tasks designed to test the understanding and use of professional, sector-specific language. **Bursaries** We want our courses to be accessible to students from any background, so we’ve put together a cash support package in the form of non-repayable bursaries to provide financial help where it’s really needed. Details for 2022-23 will be advertised once approved by the university regulator – the Office for Students (OfS). Please check our website - www.nottinghamcollege.ac.uk - for more information. **Qualification awarded** Pearson Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Public Services **Possible careers and progression** On successful completion of the Higher National Certificate (HNC), you could progress to the Higher National Diploma (HND). From here you could progress to further study, such as our BA (Hons) top-up courses in Service Sector Management or Business Studies, both validated by Nottingham Trent University. Other similar BA top-up courses are available, subject to the provider’s entry requirements, such as: BA (Hons) Public Services, BA (Hons) Public Services Management and BA (Hons) Uniformed and Public Services. Alternatively, you will be well placed to pursue a career in a range of uniformed and non-uniformed public services roles. Each of the services have their own career entry routes, which you will learn about during the course to help you to decide your next steps.

Typical Offer: Applicants should normally possess (or expect to achieve) a minimum of 48 UCAS tariff points. All applicants will receive due consideration and a wide variety of educational and other lifetime experiences can be taken into account.

Applicants should possess (or expect to achieve) a full Level 3 qualification in the Public Services or a related subject area.

For entry to our university-level courses, we expect applicants to be working (or to demonstrate competency) at Level 2 or above in English Language/Literacy and Mathematics/Numeracy. Generally, we accept GCSE passes in English Language and Mathematics at Grades 9 – 4 (formerly Grades A* - C). Experienced mature applicants (those aged 21 or above at the start of the course) with relevant professional or industrial experience and/or qualifications are very welcome to apply.
