**Becoming a professional photographer is about so much more than just taking great pictures. This course will encourage your creative side and develop your professional skills. The course has been designed in consultation with industry partners and Nottingham Trent University, our chief validating university.** **About the course** As an aspiring professional photographer, by choosing this course you’ll gain a wider understanding of your medium and we’ll prepare you for the demands of a rapidly changing and exciting industry. We’ll focus on helping you develop a creative approach to image-making, excellent technical skills and practices plus the skills and knowledge to pursue commercial practice after you graduate. The course currently has its own commercial arm in the form of a student-run agency. As part of the team you’ll get the chance to work in real industry situations under the guidance of experienced professionals. Our staff have strong links with industry and a wide range of professional photographers take part in the established guest lecture programme. The course has been designed in partnership with industry partners and Nottingham Trent University, our chief validating partner. **Modules may include** - studio photography - location photography (landscape, architectural, editorial) - photo book making - online presence - competition entries - photographic techniques - contextual studies - business planning Live assignments and award-winning collaborations (such as our current venture with Whitecliff Art College in Auckland, New Zealand and our previous ‘Women of Nottingham’ project), visits to exhibitions and industry-sponsored workshops will contribute to a thorough exploration of photography. The course culminates in a final project that will allow you to concentrate on your preferred specialist area and present your work in a public exhibition. **Assessment** There are no examinations. Assessment is continuous throughout the course. Work is organised into practical and written projects. These are then graded and students receive written and verbal feedback. The course culminates in a final exhibition. **Bursaries** We want our courses to be accessible to students from any background, so we’ve put together a cash support package in the form of non-repayable bursaries to provide financial help where it’s really needed. Details for 2022-23 will be advertised once approved by the university regulator – the Office for Students (OfS). Please check our website - www.nottinghamcollege.ac.uk - for more information. **Your career and progression** Students can progress on to our Level 6 BA (Hons) Art and Design or BA (Hons) Digital Media Design top-up degrees. Alternatively, students can progress to the second or third year of the BA (Hons) Photography course at Nottingham Trent University; or another university of their choice. This qualification can also open up a wide range of careers within the photographic/media industries: such as advertising, commercial, sports, PR, events and weddings.
