**When you play a game, are you just playing or are you thinking about how it is made, the graphics, the sound, the narrative, and how it encourages to keep trying even when you fail?** **This exciting new course aims to meet the needs of future artists and designers in the contemporary creative industries. Dedicated pathways provide the opportunity to explore a specialist medium in detail, in preparation for further degree-level study or working in industry.** **Within the HNC Creative Media Production course, the Game Development specialist pathway embraces the skills, language and knowledge needed to succeed at the cutting edge of the global gaming industry. Game Development is the art of creating games and describes the design, development and release process. It can involve initial concept generation, designing, building, testing and release. Students will be encouraged to explore their creativity, take risks, build their confidence, and prepare to reach their potential.** **For the course scheduled to begin in February 2022, course delivery is planned to run through continuously until the end of August 2022.** **About the course** There is an emphasis on employability skills and the knowledge essential for students with entrepreneurial, employment or academic aspirations. Programme content is designed to be appropriate for entry to or progression within the creative sector and to enable progress to higher study at Level 5 on the Higher National Diploma (HND) and Level 6 BA (Hons) Digital Media Design top-up degree (validated by Nottingham Trent University). **HNC Core modules include:** - Individual Project (Pearson-set) - Creative Media Industry - Professional Practice **Specialised mandatory units:** - Game Development Practices - Games in Context - Game Design **Specialist optional units:** - select two additional units to make up to 120 credits of study **Assessments** A combination of traditional and innovative assessment methods are utilised such as: projects, presentations, industry work experience and individual or group assignments. There are no examinations. **Qualification awarded:** Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Creative Media Production (Game Development) - awarded by Pearson **Bursaries** We want our courses to be accessible to students from any background, so we’ve put together a cash support package in the form of non-repayable bursaries to provide financial help where it’s really needed. Media graduates are very much in demand in the creative arts and associated industries, such as marketing, publishing, branding, retail merchandising, design agencies and community arts organisations as well as the world of media and gaming itself.

For media-related courses, we may ask to see a portfolio of your recent work and a piece of academic writing as part of the admissions procedure.


For entry to our university-level courses, we expect applicants to be working (or to demonstrate competency) at Level 2 or above in English Language/Literacy and Mathematics/Numeracy. Generally, we accept GCSE passes in English Language and Mathematics at Grades 9 – 4 (formerly Grades A* - C).
