An Economics degree at NTU is your gateway to a career in financial services and a wide range of sectors. You will focus on applied Economics, training you to think like an economist from day one. You will gain a solid grounding in the main elements of economic analysis, while learning about its application to public and private organisations. You will make sense of a range of important issues affecting our everyday lives and improve your decision-making skills in ways that are relevant to the discipline of Economics. As an Economics student, you’ll have access to our unique Business Lab facility. With 12 double-screen workstations, the room gives you a simulated experience of working in the fast-moving world of shares and trading. You can access sophisticated analysis tools and Bloomberg Terminal data on worldwide financial markets. Nottingham Business School enrols its economics students with The Society of Professional Economists (SPE), which is the leading organisation serving professional economists in the UK. Nottingham Business School at NTU is EQUIS and AACSB accredited and ranked Top 20 in the UK for Economics according to the Guardian league table 2021. 93% of full-time BA (Hons) Economics students were satisfied with this course (National Student Survey 2020). We are one of only six UK business schools recognised as a PRME Champion, and held up as an exemplar by the United Nations Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME). NBS is also recognised by the Small Business Charter, as we play an effective role in supporting small businesses, local economies and student entrepreneurship.

Year One: Six core modules. Year Two: Five core modules plus one optional module. Full-time students have the option to replace the specialist and optional modules with a unique half-year opportunity, which include studying abroad, setting up an enterprise, and an industry internship. Year Three: Placement year for students on the four-year course. Final Year: Five core modules plus one optional module. Throughout the course, your modules will cover a variety of subjects including: Intermediate Macroeconomics, Intermediate Microeconomics, Quantitative Methods for Economists, Environmental and Resource Economics, Employment and Enterprise, Economic Evaluation, Macroeconomic Issues and Policy, Choice and Welfare and The World Economy.
