BA (Hons) Textile Design is hands-on and cutting edge in investigating contemporary design practice. With access to specialist studios and workshops, you are encouraged to explore a contextual approach across a range of disciplines including print, weave, knit, stitch, CAD embroidery, digital print, laser cutting and design software. Unconstrained by specialism, you can create original work that pushes your ideas and techniques. This freedom in creative practice has enabled students to win a series of awards including New Designers, Bradford Textile Society and the Angela Houston Constructed Textile Award. You will develop your commercial and industry understanding through lectures and workshops with textile and fashion industry guests such as Sarah Angold, Sally Ann Wood (Cath Kidston) and Margo Selby. You will graduate with a portfolio to submit to companies and national and international trade shows such as New Designers London and Première Vision Paris. This course includes a Year Zero, which promotes developing practical, technical and creative skills and confidence for the following three years. Building on your prior experience, you will be introduced to some of our workshops to assist your skill development, with an increasing emphasis on professional standards and independent study. The course places emphasis on your personal commitment to study, while supporting you in your progression.
