Course Summary

**Why choose this course?** Our Photography degree takes a practical approach to exploring the photograph within a range of contemporary practices and contexts. You’ll develop your understanding of the place of photographic work within leisure, commercial and cultural contexts, to understand the impact photography can have and the change it can inspire. We encourage you to explore the photograph within art, editorial, product, services and industry, communications, performance and entertainment. You’ll develop skills independently, so you can work to client commissions and function as a professional following graduation in photography. As well as your assessed coursework, we encourage you to present your work to the public. There will be additional costs included in contributing to and setting up exhibitions, such as gallery hire, printing, mounting/framing and transport. These will vary depending on the venue and the number of participants. We organise annual international trips* for groups of around 30 students across the arts subjects. These are optional but have proved to be valuable for students’ academic and practical experience. There are usually one or two trips to Europe each year and at least one long haul trip further afield. Study trips to Europe cost approximately £300-350 while trips to America/Asia cost approximately £850-1000. We don’t expect students to arrive with their own high-end cameras, we have a range of Nikon digital cameras which can be loaned (subject to availability). You may wish to go on to purchase your own camera in your second year. **By studying at the University of Northampton, you can be sure that:** - You will experience student life at the University’s £330 million Waterside Campus.
