Course Summary

Animation is constantly changing and evolving, but even with the latest digital techniques drawing and story-telling remain key elements of any successful production. This course will help you develop these skills, and you’ll also engage in debates on art, design and literature, subjects which will be central to your development. You will work on individual and group projects, and have the opportunity to collaborate with students from Photography Video Art, Illustration and other courses. Learn about how animation’s origins are rooted in the disciplines of art and design. Study the fundamental principles of your art through drawing and story-telling narratives. Develop a range of personal and practice-based skills that relate to specific areas of contemporary animation. Gain a deep understanding of the value of your work, and analyse your progress and on-going development. Explore the artistic, critical and cultural contexts associated with contemporary animation. Challenge yourself as you work towards the completion of your final project, which will be eligible for entry in national and international festivals and competitions. Benefit from the use of the very latest technology – Macs, lightboxes, high-tech cameras and digital studios – to create your work.
