This specialist Painting & Drawing degree offers the chance for students to focus on painting and drawing in equal measure or as single disciplines. You will also be introduced to printmaking which can be used both in combination with painting and drawing or as a single discipline.
The structure of Fine Art Painting & Drawing BA (Hons) is designed to introduce students to a wide variety of new ideas, techniques and processes and to offer them a wide-ranging expansion of the possibilities of both painting and drawing. Other highlights include:

Course Details - Modules
All modules are compulsory. **STAGE 1:** • Introduction to Media Practice • Extended Studio Practice and Context • Introduction to Drawing • Understanding the Visual. **STAGE 2:** • Painting and Drawing 40 • Professional Studies: Directions • Professional Studies: Positioning Your Practice • Painting and Drawing in the Expanded Field • Critical Debates in Contemporary Painting and Drawing. **STAGE 3:** • Practice Exhibition (Fine Art Painting and Drawing) • Critical Study • Professional Practice and Employability. Module information is quoted for 21/22 entry. Please note that modules run subject to student numbers and staff availability, any changes will be communicated to applicants accordingly.
Course Details – Assessment Method
Theory is assessed through essays, assignments, a major critical study and presentations, while practical work is judged through studio presentations and exhibitions.
There will be two assessment periods. The first, around December to January, will be a chance for you to see how you are progressing and will not contribute to your final grade. The second, in May to June will be the official assessment for the year and will form your grade.
