Secondary Education Physical Education 11-16 with Post 16 enhancement (with recommendation for QTS)
Course Summary
At Newman University, we recognise that teachers come from a diverse community and therefore need access to different routes into the profession. We are delighted to launch our new Secondary Undergraduate degree with Qualified Teachers’ Status (QTS). From September 2022, we will be offering the following subjects with QTS: English, Mathematics, Science (with Physics), Physical Education and Religious Education.
If you are passionate about teaching, this course will equip you with the skills to teach secondary school students across the 11-16 age range, plus post-16, recognised through the award of QTS. The course is designed to provoke thought, challenge assumptions and help develop you as a reflective practitioner of the subject, so that you can enter the teaching profession with clear educational priorities and the skills with which to achieve them.
The Undergraduate programme has both a pedagogical and practical aspect. Over the three years you will have regular placements, equating to a minimum of 120* days in school, where you will develop your understanding of the subject alongside the professional skills required to teach.
In addition to your main school placements, you will have the opportunity to experience post-16 education, primary school settings and alternative placements. Furthermore, you will develop the skills required to enhance your own professional understanding and develop your own areas of professional interest.
*120 days in school maybe subject to change by the DfE.

Additional Fee Information
Fees shown are for 2020/21 academic year. The University will review tuition fees and increase fees in line with any inflationary uplift as determined by the UK Government, if permitted by law or government policy, on enrolment and in subsequent years of your course. It is anticipated that such increases would be linked to RPI (the Retail Price Index excluding mortgage interest payments).
