Course Summary

This course is subject to validation for September 2020 entry.  The Foundation Degree in Professional Practice is designed for those who are working or want to work with children and young people who need support in social, emotional, mental health and well-being.  Students will have the opportunity to enhance their employability through advancement of their professional values, knowledge, skills and personal attributes.  Students will have the opportunity to develop specific skills, such as criticality, writing, oral communication and presentation skills, including the ability to think logically and construct arguments and research skills.  In addition students will also be required to carry out independent work, and in doing so, they will become autonomous in managing their own workloads, in taking initiative, and in working effectively and efficiently to deadlines. The FdA Professional Practice is designed to help you advance your professional practice in the workplace. It is suitable for individuals from a range of professional settings such as schools, charitable organisations and other educational settings. Furthermore it provides you with a strong platform from which to apply for postgraduate qualifications such as the PGCE Primary programme, in order to train to become a primary school teacher. The course will encourage you to define your personal philosophy and to refine your professional practice by engaging in critical and analytical reflection. You will enhance your understanding of theory by engaging in individual and collaborative research activities. You will be provided with opportunities to relate theory to practice and to evaluate your capacity to embrace and facilitate change in the workplace. This course will equip you with the skills required to make a significant impact on your own workplace practices and to positively influence those of others. As a Professional Practice graduate you will be equipped with an impressive skill-set which will prove beneficial in a variety of professional settings. The knowledge you have accrued and the skills developed will enable you to be critically self-aware and able to apply your learning in your work environment. The degree will also provide a strong platform for further study and career enhancement.
