The Higher Nationals in Business has been developed to focus on:
Providing education and training for a range of careers in business.
Providing opportunities for departmental managers to achieve a nationally recognised Level 4/ Level 5 vocationally specific qualification.
Providing opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised, vocationally specific qualification to enter employment in business, start-up own enterprise or to progress to higher education vocational qualifications such as a degree in computing or a related area
Developing the knowledge, understanding and skills of learners in the multi layered field of business.
Providing opportunities for learners to focus on the development of higher-level skills in an enterprise and entrepreneurial context.
Providing opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills and techniques and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.
In addition, the set of key skills developed, are valued by employers; the course includes the key business areas of marketing, human resource management, and finance, as well as the operational and planning associated with business decision making. A distinctive feature of the course is that it provides an international focus. Within this international context, students develop their abilities as business practitioners through a range of work-related learning and assessment opportunities.
Aims of the qualification
This qualification meets the needs of the above rationale by:
Giving students the opportunity to specialise in a business-related occupational area and to progress to degree-level study.
Preparing students to move on to specific areas of business at Level 6 or to enter employment with the qualities and abilities necessary for roles that require personal responsibility and decision-making.
Giving students the ability to develop and apply their own ideas to their studies, to deal with uncertainty and complexity, to explore solutions, demonstrate critical evaluation and use both theory and practice in a wide range of business situations.
Giving students a sound understanding of the principles in their area of specialist study and will know how to apply those principles more widely in the business world. They will be able to perform effectively in their specialist area.
The course is made up of 15 units, all of which must be completed. Requires 240 credits, of which 120 credits are at Level 5 (7 units) and 120 credits are at Level 4 (8 units).

Unit 6: Managing a Successful Business Project (15 credits)

Unit 7: Business Law (15 credits)
Unit 8: Innovation and Commercialisation (15 credits)
Unit 9: Entrepreneurial Ventures (15 credits)
Unit 12: Executive Recruitment Solutions (15 credits)
Higher National Diploma Level 5 (Year 2)
To make up the total of 15 units, a further 7 units will be taken. All students must study the following core mandatory units:
Unit 19: Research Project (Pearson-set) (30 credits)
Unit 20: Organisational Behaviour (15 credits)
In addition, a further six units must be completed to achieve the HND. These units are potentially subject to change and some units not listed here may be studied.

International applicants
Standard Qualification Requirements
Students will have one of the following: -
a level 3 qualification, preferably in Business
An Access to Higher Education certificate awarded by an approved FE college
Work related experience for a minimum of 5 years
GCE Advanced Level study demonstrating strong performance in more than one subject, in addition to GCSE grades A-C in English and Mathematics
English language skills will be assessed by the college through initial assessment equivalent to CEFR level B2, where the student has completed a level 3 course in business in the UK. In all other cases CEFR level B2 certificate from an approved awarding body in UK will be used as the entry criteria for competence in English language for this course.
There will also be a one-to-one interview sessions to understand students' motivations to learn.
As part of our entry requirements, applicants who may not have the necessary qualifications, may be considered through their relevant work experience (3 years minimum). As part of the application process, applicants will be required to provide a copy of their CV and other relevant documents.
