Overview
Mental health conditions are a lot more prevalent than people realise. However, both mental health conditions and mental health nursing are often poorly understood. Mental health nursing is a challenging, yet rewarding profession and we warmly welcome applications from well-qualified candidates.
Why study BSc Nursing (Mental Health) at Middlesex University?
Your main skill as a mental health nurse is your ability to connect to other people and to help them to improve their overall well-being. The therapeutic relationships that you make with the people you support, and their families and friends are critical to helping people manage their experience of mental ill health and the stigma which can accompany it. Choosing to become a mental health nurse is rewarding - it is also complex and challenging. As a career, mental health nursing is meaningful, interesting, flexible and varied and at its heart, it is about supporting people experiencing mental distress to recover and live the best lives possible.
We are seeking students who can demonstrate a passion for helping others, demonstrate empathy, warmth and care coupled with the ability to collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams and advocate on behalf of clients and their families / carers in a highly sensitive area of healthcare. Confidence in dealing with people as well as good communication and observation skills are key - if this sounds like you then we encourage you to apply.
At least one in four people will experience mental distress and nurses are a vital part of their recovery, our BSc degree course will support you to develop the knowledge and confidence to help others and succeed in this exciting profession.
We focus on building vital professional experience and 50% of study time is spent on placement in nursing settings. Many of our students also secure their first job with a placement host. Through your studies you will learn to assess clients effectively, build knowledge of mental health treatment interventions, and learn to develop successful care plans.
