Course Summary

Course information Biomedical engineering fuses engineering with medicine to improve healthcare delivery, and develops innovative technologies for prognosis, diagnosis, monitoring and treatment. The technological developments taking place in medicine, engineering, physics, maths and computer science means biomedical engineering is a rapidly growing field, with emergent technologies and an expanding global industry. **Why study BEng/MEng Biomedical Engineering at Middlesex University?** This course is an degree is exciting multi-disciplinary study in engineering covering anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, implants and prosthetics, medical instrumentation and rehabilitation. It has been designed to meet the current needs of healthcare providers by training biomedical engineers who can design and improve both existing and emergent systems, devices and treatments. Building upon previous experiences in applied mathematics and physics or other applied sciences, this degree will develop a wide range of engineering knowledge and skills to contribute to improving quality of or saving lives in the healthcare industry or healthcare delivery. You will be armed with the skills, knowledge and experience to innovate the future of healthcare by entering a career in the expanding field of biomedical engineering or by progressing to postgraduate study in a related field. You will have access to fully equipped state-of-the-art laboratories for medical device design and human performance measurement and will benefit from the facilities in our human-computer interaction research department where we are making developments in vital areas of healthcare, such as the rehabilitation of stroke victims and amputees. **Course highlights** The teaching team is made up from professional engineers and fully qualified healthcare practitioners drawn from a range of departments within the Faculty Teaching is influenced by and incorporates front-line research in medical engineering, rehabilitation engineering and related topics You can choose to complete an optional placement between Year 2 and 3 with NHS or industrial partners, where you will gain vital professional experience and also receive a Diploma of Industrial Studies Designed to meet the standards set by the collaboration between UK Quality Assurance Agency and the Engineering Council If you apply for our four year MEng Biomedical Engineering course, you can gain a masters qualification by completing the fourth year of the degree. You can also receive student loan funding to cover your postgraduate course fees. As a student of this course you'll receive a free electronic textbook for every module.
