Course Summary

This course presents architectural technology as a discrete discipline and brings together aspects of architecture, civil engineering, services engineering, environmental science and building information modelling in a practical and industry-focused degree. **Why study BSc Architectural Technology at Middlesex University?** Designed to provide a range of skills increasingly in demand in the technical arenas of construction, urban planning and architecture, this Architectural Technology degree provides an alternative route into high-end roles within these industries. The degree focuses on both creating architectural form/function, and also understanding how modern buildings work - turning conceptual designs and drawings into a practical building project. Building Information Modelling (BIM) techniques are used in all aspects of the programme, and you will be introduced to new, efficient and lean methodologies in construction technologies, processes, people, policies and standards. You will develop sought-after workplace skills in project management – including costing, scheduling, resourcing, quality and risk assessment, legislations and legal issues, facilities maintenance and operations. These skills are enhanced through real-life projects with our partnerships in industry in UK and abroad. The course teaches skills in creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, communication, and state-of-the-art technologies. Complementary modules cover structural, civil, mechanical and electrical engineering; plumbing, audio systems, heating and lighting, and analysing sustainable energy and environmental solutions. **Course highlights** Learn from University staff who are industry professionals and practitioners in architecture, engineering disciplines, sustainability and managerial positions, as well as guest lecturers who are gurus in their respective fields Work with university and industry lecturers on real-world construction and infrastructure projects Use the latest architectural, engineering and graphic design software Enter national and international design competitions to build your personal portfolio Showcase your work in our final-year degree show, sharing your designs and ideas with industry employers One-on-one supervision throughout the whole programme from lecturers and specialist technicians Study full-time over three years, over four years with a sandwich work placement year, or part-time over six years.
