Be part of the robotics revolution. Study a progressive area of engineering to pursue a career in robotics and automation. Do you aspire to contribute to the future of an expanding industry in engineering? Our course will help you do this by advancing your knowledge of robotics, artificial intelligence and electronics systems at the forefront of engineering and design. In your first two years, you'll learn core elements of electronic, electrical and mechanical engineering. A you'll combine this with aspects of computer science, giving you a comprehensive overview of robotics engineering. You'll be supported by, and benefit from, academic staff who are advancing research in our Centre for Autonomous Robotics (CENTAUR). To become a skilled engineer, you need good technical design knowledge. That’s why our course places project work at the centre of your learning experience. Group projects challenge you to work in teams to solve practical engineering problems using communication, teamwork and management skills. You can also join one of our student teams who compete annually. These include Team Bath Racing Electric, Team Bath Drones and the autonomous underwater systems team. You’ll graduate with a strong understanding of the operation, components and design techniques of robotics engineering. Your studies will prepare you for a career in robotics and automation in areas such as robotic systems design, autonomous systems and medical robotics. Our MEng degrees give you an in-depth study experience through advanced taught units and project work and fulfil the educational requirements you need to become a Chartered Engineer. We also offer this course with a placement year, giving you the opportunity to gain work experience as part of your degree. Teaching You’ll learn from academics with expertise in electronic and electrical engineering. Their international collaborations and research activities feed into undergraduate teaching and contribute to your learning experience. Facilities You'll have access to facilities specially equipped for your degree. Our laboratories are designed to be similar to industrial workspaces so you gain an insight into what it is like to work in a professional environment. These include laboratories for autonomous systems, robotics, tomography, bioelectronics, superconductivity and power electronics. We also have facilities for opto- and nano-electronics, additive manufacturing, printed circuit board prototyping and a mechanical workshop. Careers We work with industrial partners to make sure our course content reflects the needs of engineering industries worldwide. You’ll graduate with the technical expertise and transferable skills that will open up employment opportunities for you. You can pursue a career in high-technology industries in electronics, power, aerospace, communications, robotics or manufacturing. Or you could find employment in other sectors such as IT, financial services, accountancy, the armed forces or business. Many of our graduates continue their studies to pursue an academic or research career.

Standard Qualification Requirements

AAA or A*AB in three A levels including A in Mathematics and A in Physics We will not require a pass in any separate science practical endorsement for a science A level if you apply for entry in 2022 (or deferred entry in 2023). Alternative offer Most of our students will join us with three A levels, but you may have study beyond this (such as a project qualification or additional study in maths) which demonstrates your individual talents that will help you with your degree. We recognise these studies through our alternative offers. AAB in three A levels including A in Mathematics and Physics plus one of: grade A in an EPQ grade B in the Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate grade A in AS level Further Mathematics grade B in a fourth A level, where your four A levels include A level Further Mathematics if you are eligible, a pass in the Access to Bath course or successful completion of another recognised widening access programme If you receive an offer for this course and are studying one of these qualifications you will be given both the typical and alternative offer. For any of these offers, we will not require a pass in any separate science practical endorsement for a science A level if you apply for entry in 2022 (or deferred entry in 2023).

A pass in the Access to HE Diploma (in Science or Engineering), with at least 36 credits achieved at Distinction and 3 credits achieved at Merit or above. This must include 12 credits from Mathematics units (including Calculus) achieved at Distinction and 12 credits from Physics units achieved at Distinction.

AA in two Advanced Highers including Mathematics and Physics. We make offers based on Advanced Highers. You will typically be expected to have completed five Scottish Highers and your grades in these will be considered as part of your application. We prefer applicants who have achieved at least AAAAB in their Highers.

D*DD in the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (QCF) plus grade A in A level Mathematics. We are able to consider the above qualifications in Engineering, Applied Science, Construction and the Built Environment, and Building Services in combination with A level Mathematics.

36 points overall and 6, 6, 6 or 7, 6, 5 in three Higher Level subjects including 6 in either HL Mathematics and 6 in Physics. Mathematics is required at Higher Level and we strongly prefer applicants with Physics at Higher Level. In exceptional circumstances, we may be able to consider you if you are studying Standard Level Physics. Our typical offer in this instance would be 36 points overall with 6, 6, 5 in three Higher Level subjects including 6 in either HL Mathematics plus 7 in Standard Level Physics.

DDD in the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (RQF) plus grade A in A level Mathematics. We are able to consider the above qualifications in Engineering, Applied Science, Construction and the Built Environment, and Building Services in combination with A level Mathematics.

D*DD in the Cambridge Technical Level 3 Extended Diploma plus grade A in A level Mathematics. We are able to consider the above qualifications in Engineering.

D3, D3, D3 or D2, D3, M1 in three principle subjects including D3 in Mathematics and Physics. Cambridge Pre-U alternative offer: Most of our students will join us with three principal subjects, but you may have study beyond this (such as a Global Perspectives course or additional study in maths) which demonstrates your individual talents that will help you with your degree.
