Easing a four-year-old’s long-term breathing problems, caused by cystic fibrosis. All of these scenarios have one thing in common; a physiotherapist. Amongst a team of skilled healthcare professionals – including doctors and nurses – physiotherapists independently identify, assess and analyse physical problems caused by injury, illness or ageing and treat them by taking a holistic approach using skills such as manual therapy, exercise or electrotherapy. Our three-year course incorporates the core values of the NHS constitution to help prepare you for the challenges of working as a physiotherapist in contemporary healthcare. You’ll learn to assess what people need, and identify their problems. We’ll help you to understand how to set treatment goals and determine approaches that provide the maximum benefit for your patient. To teach you essential clinical reasoning skills we use real patient case studies. This will give you the opportunity to try out your practical skills such as joint mobilisations and massage on people in your class and on patient simulators. **Features and benefits** - **Approved course** - Our physiotherapy course has been approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP). - **Full membership** - When you graduate, you can apply for registration with the HCPC and, once registered, you can apply for full membership of the CSP and Chartered Physiotherapist status. - **On-site Physiotherapy clinic** - There is an on-site physiotherapy and acupuncture clinic (The Manchester Movement Unit) which is open to the public and offers the opportunity for staff and students to access a variety of treatments. - **Employment** - 100% of Physiotherapy graduates go straight into employment and/or further study. (DLHE survey 2017, for all respondents available for employment or further study and whose destinations are known.) - **Real-world experience** - You’ll spend a minimum of 1,000 hours on physiotherapy placements in a clinical setting and you can spend your final four-week placement abroad.

5 GCSEs at grade C or 4 to include English Language, Mathematics and Science (Biology, Additional Science or Applied Science - we do not accept GCSE Physics or Chemistry on its own) IELTS 6.5 overall with no less than 6.0 in any element. Access Students You will require GCSE Grade C or 4 English Language and Mathematics but not 5 GCSEs and as you should be studying a Science/Health related Access will not necessarily need GCSE Science. However, please note that if you have gone straight to Access course at age 18 you will still require 5 GCSE’s at Grade C or 4 to include English, Mathematics and Science. Functional / Key Skills Application of Number and Communication are not accepted. An interview is required for entry on to this course. We look for commitment to physiotherapy and it is helpful to have undertaken some work experience or shadowing. It is important that you have a clear and realistic idea of the work of a physiotherapist so that you are able to make an informed choice of career. All candidates must have evidence of study at Level 3 or equivalent within the 3 years prior to application and must provide an academic reference. A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate is required for all students. This will be completed through the university prior to enrolment.
