Find out more at mmu.ac.uk/exchange** **Overview** In French and Spanish, emphasis is placed on communicating effectively and developing transferable skills such as translating, interpreting, and interview techniques. Practical language classes embrace speaking, listening, reading and writing. We offer a wide choice of subjects, which may include society, cinema, culture and linguistics. Both languages can be studied post A2 level. You can study either French or Spanish from beginners level in the first year by taking a fast track option (please note, you cannot do beginners level for both languages). The course is taken as an equal honours route. You will have the opportunity to spend your third year abroad in France and Spain. The experience of being immersed in another culture for several months is one our students find both beneficial and rewarding. They return having made new friends, experienced new places and have grown in confidence. After this year, you return to the University to study for your final year. This course has a foundation year available. **Features and Benefits** - Our Language Resource Centre is equipped with wireless laptops, PCs and voice recognition software for language training. It is also home to our multimedia and audio language learning laboratories, media booths for group-work with PCs or large flat screen TVs and multiple satellite channels broadcast in foreign languages with recording facilities. - The majority of our 30+ academic, research and support staff are native speakers of French, German, Italian, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Urdu. We also have multiple connections with language groups across Manchester to ensure you can converse in your chosen language. - You may also have the opportunity to start a new language (which may include Arabic, Chinese and Japanese). - We coach practical skills for work including communication skills, presentation skills, essay and report writing, summary skills, interview and questionnaire techniques. - In Year 1, you can choose to study the French fast-track route or Spanish fast-track (please note, you cannot do beginners level for both languages. Equally, both languages can be studied post A2 level). - You will have the option to take up our Interpreting and Translation route from your second year. - You will have the opportunity to spend your third year abroad in France and Spain, allowing you to develop your language skills and immerse yourself in the culture.
