Course Summary

This course is designed to help you develop advance knowledge and skills appropriate for a career in the fields of Software Engineering and Network Engineering. This two -year course is a work-related qualification for students taking their first step into employment, or for those already in employment and seeking career development opportunities. This new HND in computing are designed to reflect increasing demand for high quality professional and technical education pathways at Level 4 and Level 5, thereby providing students with clear line of sight to employment and progression to a degree at Level 6. The Software Engineering pathway allows students to study a variety of subjects, including the Development of Information systems, Advanced Programming, Professional Practice, Computing Research Project, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. The Network Engineering pathway offers students the option of specialising and gaining knowledge in such areas as Computer Networking, Cloud Computing, Network Security, Network Management, Games Development, Virtual & Augmented Reality and Computing Research Project.

Course Details – Assessment Method

Assessment is through time constrained assessment, assignments work including essay and report writing, portfolio building, project work, oral assessment and presentation, group and individual work. All units are graded as pass, merit or distinction. Students must pass each unit to get the overall BTEC Higher National in Computing at the end of the programme. All assessments are delivered through a standard system, which makes the context and the assessment criteria clear. There are assessment weeks and grades accumulate over the year

Standard Qualification Requirements

You will require a minimum of 48 UCAS points from a Level 3 qualification. Relevant BTEC (Pearson’s Edexcel) National Diploma/Certificate in IT or other IT related Level 3 qualification. Access to HE in Computing, Business or computer related. International Baccalaurean qualification. Applicants with BTEC ND/NC or degrees in other areas will be considered. 5 GCSEs-grades A*-C including English and Maths or equivalent qualification. Additional Entry Requirements Applications from students with specific vocational, professional and other qualifications (e.g. NVQs, MCP, CCNA, A+) are judged on merit according to the relevance of such courses serving as preparation for the programme. We also welcome applications from mature students with interest in learning the technical aspects of Computing, Networking, Software Development. If you do not have the above UCAS for GCSE requirements but have appropriate experience, specific knowledge or industry-based qualifications, your application will be welcomed & still considered.
