Course Summary

The BA Education Studies course is designed for people who are working in an educational setting and want to gain a relevant degree while in employment. All course content will enable you to apply theory in the workplace with a view to enhancing your professional skills through reflexive practice. Modules have been developed jointly between LSBU’s departments of Psychology and Education to enable you to develop and apply your understanding of how children learn.

Year 1: What is education?; Study skills; The relationship between psychology and education; Constructing childhood; Community family and children; Language, literacy and learning. Year 2: Developing mathematical thinking; Introduction to social and developmental cognition; Interpersonal interactions; Alternative education setting placement; Barriers to learning; Equality, culture and citizenship. Year 3: Project; Applied personality, intelligence and testing; Creativity in education; Applied assessment for learning; Contextualising education globally.
