Throughout history and in the present day, scientists have been and continue to be in high demand. Their work and breakthroughs help us understand more about the world we live in, the bodies we inhabit, and how to improve them - and you can be one of them. Studying either of our Bioscience pathways at LSBU will prepare you for the rapidly expanding biosciences industries in fields such as public health, pharmaceuticals, medical diagnostics, pathology, healthcare, food production and environmental issues. You’ll learn the specialist scientific subject matter as well as highly sought-after skills surrounding data analysis and research innovation. Plus, our state-of-the-art facilities and wide-ranging industrial and professional links mean that you’ll get the chance for firsthand input in real-life, practical situations.
You can choose one of two pathways, Bioscience with:
BioMedical Sciences (Applied)
BioMedical Sciences (Pharmacology and Biotech)
BSc (Hons) Bioscience makes sure that you develop all of the fundamental knowledge of scientific processes and procedures, current scientific research and innovation, and up-to-the-minute laboratory techniques alongside your chosen specialism.
We have a wide variety of laboratories, which offer you an extensive experience of scientific investigation and analysis. Whether you are studying Biosciences, Forensics or Sports, from day one you will be able to access the latest equipment and expertise. The University's purpose-built biochemistry laboratory is equipped with facilities for carrying out a wide range of chemical and biological tests. Our forensic laboratories feature the latest analytical equipment, including electron microscopy and inductively-coupled plasma spectrometry - ICPMS. Students can also carry out detailed DNA testing – the strong links we have with the London Fire Brigade provide analysis opportunities in many real-world situations.
