The BA (Hons) degree in Musical Theatre at LMA is delivered by industry professionals and is designed and delivered with industry in mind! Our performers are trained to develop high level skills within the three disciplines of dance, singing and acting. This is set within the context of an interesting, relevant programme of supporting theoretical study. All major genres and practices are developed and students have the opportunity to work across a range of musical theatre productions performed across professional theatres, along with performing across a selection of studio performances.
With the volume of performances and experiences working across a multitude of theatre venues, our graduates not only have their degree, but have the professional work ethic and etiquette required to work within the industry.

You will experience a wide range of assessment methods at LMA which are focused around your practical development as a well rounded Musical Theatre Performer. These include practical demonstrations of your acting, vocal and dance skills and techniques, both individually and as part of an ensemble. Practical exercises and briefs are also included which assess your creative ability to improvise and develop characters and roles.
In the creative production and performance modules you are given the opportunity to take part in live and staged productions where you are assessed on both the development of the production, and also your final performance. In your final year, Musical Theatre students are assessed both individually via the “Showcase” modules which allows you to demonstrate your proficiency and creativity as a solo performer, and also as a group performer via the “Major Performance” module .
Assessed journals and planning exercises are also used which enable you to reflect and analyse your skills and identify ways they can develop. In some modules, continuous tutor/student assessment is also employed in order to evaluate your journey through the module.
In addition, in the modules where you investigate the performance industry and your role within it, you will again experience a variety of assessment methods such as poster presentations, comparative reviews of different performances, and investigative essays and reports.

Additional Fee Information
You should anticipate the following additional costs associated with your course:
Clothing and footwear Items to enable you to follow the expected dress code for your course. Initial outlay from new at the start of the course approximately £100 for clothing and £120 for shoes.
All students on the Musical Theatre course are required to follow an “all black, neutral clothing” dress code for all practical workshop and rehearsal sessions. Clothing should preferably be logo free. Items worn can include Leotard, Vest, Crop top, T-shirt, Leggings, Tights, Shorts .
You are also required to have a range of footwear Items to enable you to fully participate in the different dance class activities, including suitable trainers for fitness classes , Black split sole jazz shoes; Tan New Yorkers; Black tap shoes; Split sole ballet shoes (flesh tone of your choosing)
