This is a year 0 programme leading to the single honours Medicine and Surgery programme.
The University of Liverpool, in collaboration with local FE partners, has developed a Year Zero foundation programme for Home/EU students that leads to access onto a variety of vocational Health Studies programmes:
Dentistry
Dental Therapy
Medicine
Nursing
Veterinary Science
Physiotherapy
Radiotherapy
Diagnostic Radiography
Orthoptics
Occupational Therapy
Students seeking entry to Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science will study at Carmel College, St Helens. Students seeking entry to Diagnostic Radiography, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Orthoptics, Physiotherapy or Radiotherapy will study at The Sixth Form College, Birkenhead.
Please note that application to this programme is through UCAS (see course codes below), which is specifically targeted at Home/EU mature and non-traditional students who typically have taken a break from studies.

This programme is designed for mature students who have typically been out of formal education for some time or who have taken non-traditional qualifications.
Please note that we will not consider A-Level students or School Leavers. However, consideration may be given to candidates who studied some time ago.
In order to give all applicants an equal opportunity, applicants who have been rejected following an interview will not normally be considered again.

It is essential that applicants research their preferred profession thoroughly and must show evidence of a good understanding of the scope of practice of that profession, preferably indicated by observational experience.
Experience in a paid or voluntary capacity or working with the general public, children, the elderly or people with special needs will also help to strengthen an application.
Diagnostic Radiography and Radiotherapy candidates
Must complete a Clinical Observational Visit and submit a Diagnostic Radiography Clinical Visit Form or a Radiotherapy Clinical Visit Form to the Admissions Unit at shs@liv.ac.uk prior to submitting a UCAS application.
Veterinary Science candidates
Must have undertaken a minimum of 2 weeks work experience, to include: 1 weeks work experience in a Veterinary Practice and 1 week on a commercial farm/stables/kennels or cattery.

Additional Fee Information
If this is your first degree and you are a Home student applying for entry in 2021, you do not have to pay your fees upfront. Instead, you can take out a tuition fee loan which is paid straight to the University. This is available to most students, no matter what their household income.
For students applying for 2021 entry
Tuition fees for 2021 entry are £9,250.
Exceptions to the £9,250 fee:

•Foundation programmes: the fee for the foundation year of specified programmes at Carmel College and Birkenhead Sixth Form College is £5,140.
•Programmes with a year in industry or a year abroad: the fee for students spending a full year working in industry is £1,850. The fee for students spending a full year abroad is £1,385.
