Public health impacts on all our lives and, as recent events have demonstrated, is a vital component in creating and maintaining good health. The BSc Public Health degree at Bath Spa University will equip graduates with the critical thinking skills and an interdisciplinary approach to public health interventions. It will prepare students to develop the necessary skills and competency to initiate, design, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate relevant public health programs. Public Health draws on knowledge and practice from a number of disciplines and this course is no different. The course is built around three inter-connected streams of knowledge: - Theoretical concepts where students are exposed to the underlying key theories which inform health and health policy and practice; - Practical concepts where students are provided with the skills and knowledge to apply, implement and evaluate of public health interventions - Populations and public health where learners are provided with the skills and knowledge to understand and react to the needs of populations at a local, national and global level

Year 1 is an introductory year where you will be introduced to the key components of the course. Modules will include, but not be limited to: - A history of public health. - An introduction to research methods in public health. - Health policy and practice. - The sociology of health. - Introduction to epidemiology. - Introduction to human biology. Year 2 builds on your knowledge and skills. Modules will include but not be limited to: - Ethics and philosophy in public health. - Public health, policy and social justice. - Advanced research methods in public health. - Key issues in environmental and occupational health. - Global healthcare systems. - Micro-biology and public health. - Health economics. - Work placement opportunity. - Epidemiology and communicable diseases. Year 3 allows you to use your knowledge and skills to begin to specialize and to write your Dissertation. A variety of optional modules including, but not limited to: - Harm reduction and substance use. - Nutrition. - Environmental management. - Aging and life cycles. - Contemporary global public health issues. - Community engagement. - Public health infomatics. - Monitoring and evaluation of health programmes.

You will be assessed using a variety of approaches including: Essays, Reports, Presentations, Portfolios, Briefing papers and Examinations.
