Course Summary

You will leave with the skills, knowledge and confidence to build a career as a designer within the performing arts. You will be seen as creative, ambitious and multiskilled, equally at home designing the set and costume for a theatre production or leading a site-specific performance event or creating the environment or lighting for a music gig. This is a practical course with a strong emphasis on realised performance work every year. Average places available: Up to 20 each year.

You are continually assessed on your practical work and contribution to projects – both on your working process and your realised design. There is written work in the form of evaluations of your practical work and a final research project at the end of your third year when you explore an area of your choice.

Minimum of five GCSEs grade C (these should normally include Maths and English Language). For applicants taking the reformed GCSE qualifications, we will consider the new grade 4 as being equivalent to a grade C. We normally expect applicants to successfully complete a Foundation Studies course in Art and Design or an equivalent course at pre-degree level. Some may be admitted directly after their Level 3 qualifications but will need to demonstrate more substantial experience in art and design, including relevant theatre design experience. Minimum of 64 UCAS points is normally required. This equates to: * Two A-Levels at grade C. All A-Level subjects accepted excluding General Studies.
