Course Summary

Our Graphic Design foundation degree offers insight into day-to-day life in the design industry. You’ll become an expert in industry-standard software and learn to generate work from concept to implementation, with effective client liaison and project management. Live briefs form an integral part of the course, reflecting current industry trends and developments. You’ll have opportunities to work with visiting practitioners, engage with clients, and work collaboratively with your peers. This course is delivered by our partner - University Centre Weston.

Course Details - Modules

Year one - The first year of this course introduces you to a range of technical skills, builds your awareness of practices in commercial studios and equips you with a sound understanding of the history and context of design. You’ll engage with live projects from the industry and work with visiting practitioners and clients to enhance your employability skills. Year two - The second year of the course encourages you to build your professional self-promotional portfolio, and liaise with designers/agencies to gain individual work placements. You’ll also implement your creative skills in a self-directed project, showcasing your work in a final exhibition.

Course Details – Assessment Method

Assessment is via a combination of practical exams and coursework, with an assessment breakdown of 5% practical exams and 95% coursework. There are no written exams on this course.

Grades CDD or equivalent, preferably in a related area such as the BTEC Extended Diploma in Graphic Design or another art or design-based subject.Applications from those studying only two A-levels or alternative qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.

Grade Merit is preferred.

Typical offers for applicants with Access to HE will be the Access to HE Diploma or Access to HE Certificate (60 credits, 45 of which must be Level 3, including 30 at merit or higher).
