The Foundation Year aims to develop your skills so that after a year, you will be equipped with the necessary skills needed for studying the full BA Hons degree programme. Please note that Combined Honours degrees at Liverpool Hope University are split 50/50. This means both subjects will be studied equally. **Mathematics** Mathematics is a fascinating and exciting subject. It is the language of modern Business and Commerce, Engineering, Science and Technology and is as old as mankind. As the universal language of science it is the best tool we have to describe reality. At Liverpool Hope, you will develop a passion and enthusiasm for mathematics and its applications. Mathematics encompasses many analytical and numerical methods that are used to solve scientific and industrial problems. Mathematics at Liverpool Hope has been designed to help you develop strong analytical and numerate abilities and skills so that you learn how to look at problems, break them down into simpler questions and then solve them. Mathematics at Liverpool Hope can be taken as a single honours degree or a combined honours degree with a related subject. The degree will cover all areas of mathematics including pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. By the end of the degree, you will be confident in tackling real world problems mathematically. We pride ourselves on providing an excellent student experience, and the tutors at Liverpool Hope work hard to ensure that you get the most from your degree. **Sport & Exercise Science** The science of sport and exercise is central in understanding how to maximise sports performance, how we master skills and how to treat and prevent disease. You will examine these issues from a multidisciplinary perspective, focusing on psychology, physiology, biomechanics, performance analysis, nutrition and strength & conditioning. By the end of your studies you will confidently and independently develop training programmes and interventions that will promote peak performance, the learning of new skills and reduce the burden of disease. Study with us and you will have full access to the multi-million pound, state-of-the-art Health Science Building and Sports Complex, incorporating dedicated research space and new teaching laboratories. This facility houses ultra-modern equipment where you will learn to conduct complete physiological, psychological and biomechanical profiles of human sports performance using breath-by-breath expired gas analysis, blood analysis, vascular and cardiac screening, body composition analysis, eye-tracking, electromyography and motion capture to name but a few. You will leave with the skills to become a sports scientist working with elite performers or clinical populations, the basis to become a sports coach, or enter the teaching profession and train the next generation of sports scientists. You will be taught by tutors who are active researchers at the cutting edge of Sport & Exercise Science, and whom regularly publish their work to international audiences.
