- Provides an opportunity to explore career identity through embedded education-relevant placement - Science behind learning, the research and analytical skills to investigate and generate new knowledge - Interdisciplinary approach to understanding education at the level of the individual and their place within diverse contexts Our exciting multidisciplinary Educational Psychology degree looks at learning within the wider world, across diversity in both context and individuals. Nurturing an interest in education and a deep concern for social justice, this course uses the lens of psychology to explore local, national and international policy and practice in order to transform lives. Informed by our Centre for Research in Early Childhood, the Psychology Centre for Health and Cognition, and building upon our externally funded projects on neuroscience in education, within this course you will discover the science of learning in both groups and individuals and gain the skills to investigate and generate new knowledge in the field. Accredited by British Psychological Society, this programme has professionalism at its core. Throughout the curriculum, and particularly within the embedded placement opportunity, the course will help students identify their professional aspirations and actively nurture them with personalized learning and opportunities for reflection. Graduates will have the knowledge and skills for further studies or employment within the education psychology sector and beyond. British Psychological Society (BPA) accreditation (80 credits per year are necessary for accreditation at levels 4, 5 and 6) **More about the Professional Placement Year** A Professional Placement Year (PPY), traditionally known as a sandwich year, is where a student undertakes a period of work with an external organisation for between 9-13 months. The placement occurs between the students' second and third years of undergraduate study. Students can engage in up to 3 placements to make up the total time and are required to source the placement(s) themselves with support from the Careers & Employability Team.

Course Details - Modules

In year 1, you will learn the foundation concepts of education and psychology: including human development, the influence of social interactions, the importance of individual differences, how we learn, as well as how, why, and where we educate. In year 2, you will deep dive into scientific ways of knowing, the mind and brain, social influences, and supporting learners with diverse needs. In addition, you will embark on an embedded professional practice placement through which you will explore your professional identity. Your third (placement) year provides you with the opportunity to identify, apply for, and secure professional experience, normally comprising one to three placements over a minimum of nine months. Successful completion of this module will demonstrate your ability to secure and sustain graduate-level employment. By completing the module, you'll be entitled to the addition of 'with Professional Placement Year' to your degree title. In your final year, you will advance your understanding of human development and cognition, apply your knowledge from years 1 and 2 to professional context, and engage with an in depth research project exploring areas within the intersection of education and psychology, such as health, and well being.

Continuous assessment and examination. Assessments could include essays, group presentations, research-based reports and portfolio-based work. We’ll provide you with regular feedback on how well you're doing and give you regular guidance on how to improve your skills, knowledge and understanding.
