The BA (Hons) Documentary Photography and Print programme equips you with an expanded and interdisciplinary art practice that blends the traditions of documentary storytelling with the most exciting innovations in contemporary photography, print design and production.
We offer a platform where you learn how to think critically and can articulate independent ideas through making work, gaining technical skills and engage with theories of art, representation and culture.
Course Details - Modules
Year one -
You'll take a combination of theory, practice and cross functional skills. This includes studying a range of technical photographic, cinematographic and design processes and skills, and the relationship between idea, material and form.
You'll identify conceptual development, and develop a range of skills in analogue and digital technologies. You'll also develop proficiencies in research and contextual studies, an understanding of audiences and reflect on the creative process.
Year two -
You'll study photographic and design based practice, exploring material and technical process informed by critical enquiry. A combination of theory, practice and skills based modules will require you to generate ideas, explore in-depth the relationship between photographic practice and technology, undertake advanced study of cross functional skills, and develop multiple photographic projects.
Year three -
The final year of study is structured around independent learning, leading to the development of major projects and separate portfolios. A combination of theory, practice and skills based modules are offered, including digital edition and photographic practices, as well as specialist diploma work and studio modules.
Along with a high level of critical enquiry and engagement in project development, you'll also study the accurate application of skills in post production, editing, sequencing and production of original outputs in a range of material forms and technologies.
Course Details – Assessment Method
A range of summative assessment tasks will be used, including a combination of coursework assessments such as essays, journals, portfolios, reports, as well as a practical submissions such as exhibitions, publication and presentation. There are no written examinations.
