This is the 4 year course which includes a Professional Placement Year. Dance at Bath Spa University offers rigorous practical training in choreography, technique and performance and aims to build the skills you need to become a creative and articulate dance professional. You’ll immerse yourself in an exciting and challenging artistic environment, gaining industry experience through weekly classes and projects delivered through our extensive network of professional dance artists and companies. - Creativity and performance lie at the heart of the course. - Take the course as a single honours subject, or alongside another subject as a combined award. - Alternatively, you can take the course alongside another art discipline (BA Creative Arts). - Be immersed in a world of exciting choreographic opportunities. - Develop a critical and analytical mindset that will support your creative enquiry. **More about the Professional Placement Year** A Professional Placement Year (PPY), traditionally known as a sandwich year, is where a student undertakes a period of work with an external organisation for between 9-13 months. The placement occurs between the students' second and third years of undergraduate study. Students can engage in up to 3 placements to make up the total time and are required to source the placement(s) themselves with support from the Careers and Employability Team.

Course Details - Modules

Year 1 will be a fast-paced, challenging experience that builds your skills in the key areas of performance, creativity and critical thinking. You’ll work on regular performance projects, creating solo, small group and large ensemble work.You will attend regular sessions with visiting companies and artists, this will help expand your understanding of the dance industry. In Year 2, you’ll stretch those creative and performance skills in exciting new directions, while a wide range of practical sessions will deepen your understanding of how performance work can be created for different contexts. The visiting guest artist will continue to provide you with inspirational workshops. Finally, Year 3 will see you focus on developing a specialist area, with modules to support the pathway that interests you, such as performance, choreography, teaching, and dance movement therapy. You’ll embark on a large scale performance project, as well as completing a work placement with a professional dance organisation. Please refer to our website for more information.

Course Details – Assessment Method

We’ll assess your work in a variety of ways such as practical performances, presentations, portfolios and essays. Practical projects may be assessed on your creative process, the final product or both.

Standard Qualification Requirements

A Level grades BCC-CCC including Grade C in Dance, Performing Arts or related subjects accepted.

Grade Merit is preferred.

Typical offers for applicants with Access to HE will be the Access to HE Diploma or Access to HE Certificate (60 credits, 45 of which must be Level 3, including 30 at merit or higher) in addition to other qualifications and experience in Dance.

A minimum of 27 points will be required in addition to evidence of further experience/ qualifications in dance or performing arts .

Extended Diploma grades Distinction, Merit. Merit (DMM) in Dance, Performing Arts or related subjects accepted.
