BA Creative Media is designed to train up the next generation of content creators seeking to work at the cutting-edge of creative enterprise, digital production, and socially engaged, participatory media practice.
The Creative Media programme is a creative gateway to developing a broad range of media content creation skills, enabling progression into a growing and highly innovative content production sector.
Fulfilling your creative and entrepreneurial potential, students will have a range of opportunities to develop production skills across different digital and interactive media, developing an identity as commercially and socially engaged media professionals who understand where the opportunities for innovation and enterprise really are.
Want to learn how to effectively make the transition from media student to successful media professional?
In the final year, students will join Artswork Media, a professional production company and digital agency. Based at Paintworks, in the heart of Bristol’s creative quarter, this Bath Spa University-led company is run by students and creative media professionals. Students enrich their portfolios and employability prospects creating media for industry clients. Previous clients include Bristol Old Vic to Boomtown Music Festival.

Students will have unique access to not only Artswork Media, but also the Media Industry Mentor programme and Centre for Media Research’s in-house Digital Media Hackathons and Industry Roundtable events, providing students with direct access to cutting-edge creative design workshops and media showcases where industry networks can be harnessed and new creative ideas implemented.
Course Details - Modules
Year one -
Develop your skills. You’ll be introduced to ways of nurturing your creative thinking and problem-solving skills individually and in teams. You’ll develop your skills in audiovisual editing, interaction design and image manipulation. In your core module, we introduce you to ways of thinking about media texts and forms, audiences, and the industries and institutions in the media and creative sector. Brief-led projects bring together and showcase your skills and knowledge.
Year two -
Begin to specialise. Your core module introduces the practices and processes of commissioning work in the media industries. You’ll learn about employment opportunities and start to think about yourself as a budding media professional. Optional modules give you opportunities to explore specialisms including digital and interactive media production, experimental media and activism, short-form filmmaking, visual design, and media writing. All students work together to plan, budget and stage a media event.
Year three -
Join Artswork Media. Supported by tutors and media practitioners, you’ll work on a variety of independent projects and develop your professional identity and portfolio. An important part of Artswork Media is working with clients on live projects. Past clients include: Bristol Old Vic, Glastonbury Festival, the NHS, Rough Trade, The Big Issue Foundation and Boomtown Festival.
Course Details – Assessment Method
Creative Media Practice assessments are all based around coursework. Throughout your time studying with us, you’ll work on a variety of independent and brief-led projects across different media. You’ll produce project reports, research journals and diaries, essays and portfolios.

Grade Merit is preferred.
