This BA (Hons) Top-Up programme is a direct progression route for students successfully completing the HND Photography, HND Fashion, or similar Level 5 programme (such as HND in Art and Design). It is designed to allow students to build on their knowledge and skills and specialise in a chosen area such as photography, fashion or art and design whilst also conducting research into contemporary issues in the creative industries and developing themselves professionally. Applicants select their chosen pathway (photography or fashion) and each programme develops the level and application of specialist skills and knowledge required along with a critical understanding of issues relating to the chosen pathway. Students build on their own particular area of expertise in assignment-based and project-based work. A key, special feature of the programme is work-related learning, not only in the area of employability but also self-employment, enterprise and entrepreneurship. Any students intending to do project work in an education or community context will need to obtain DBS clearance before starting the project.

The programme is assessed through the submission of written essays, critical evaluations and logs/blogs, practical assessments, an independently organised public exhibition and a final project or the submission of a dissertation. Formative feedback will support student progression in both written work and practical outcomes. Self and/or peer assessment in convener/critique situations will be an element of all projects and the feedback from these will enhance student achievement and progression. The programme is worth 120 credits at Level 6. Assessment methods will vary according to the nature of the module and learning outcomes being assessed. Students with identified learning needs may, on the advice of support staff, be given deadline extensions, extra time to complete exams or alternative assessments where appropriate and where the learning outcomes being assessed can be measured fairly. We aim to provide written (and where possible, verbal) feedback within 3 working weeks, and use e-submission (via Turnitin for written assignments) where possible.
