Fast-track your route into industry with our two-year Foundation Degree, designed to give you the practical training and experience you need for a successful career in studio recording and music production. The Foundation Electronic Music Production programme at Leeds Conservatoire is focused on professional practice and provides you with all you need to go straight into the industry, with the option to progress onto the third year of our BA Music Production course. This is a two-year, industry-focused courses that enables you to get all the practical skills and industry knowledge needed to work successfully within the creative industries. Foundation Degrees offer a flexible approach to study as you can progress to the final year of a BA programme, take time out, or launch your career after two years of study. We develop electronic music producers in live DJ performance technologies, computer music and electronic music composition. In addition, a choice of projects will allow students to apply their skills to different scenarios.

Course Details - Modules

The programmes have strands in Specialist Study, Contextual Studies and Professional Studies that span Levels 4 and 5. Students focus primarily on their Specialist Study Year 1 (Level 4) Compulsory modules: Production Analysis Recording Studio Techniques 1 Audio and MIDI Sequencing 1 Music Production in Context 1 Professional Studies 1: Working in the Creative Industries Year 2 (Level 5) Compulsory modules: Music Industry Project Recording Studio Techniques 2 Audio and MIDI Sequencing 2 Project Music Production in Context 2 Professional Studies 2 Project optional modules, one of: Live Performance Project DJ Project for Producers Professional Studies 2 optional modules, one of: Artistic Management Business Start-up Concerts and Touring Instrumental Music Tuition Self-Promotion and Music Marketing Structure and Functions of the Film Music Industry Working with Music in the Community Module specifications can be found via the Leeds Conservatoire website.

Course Details – Assessment Method

The Foundation Degree is a vocational programme with an emphasis on practical work and assessments are designed with industry relevance in mind. The course is assessed via coursework, musical portfolios, recordings, technical tests, presentations or written work. The exact nature of assessments will depend on the Professional Studies and Project module options chosen at Level 5. Formal assessments tend to take place at the end of each semester or the end of the year. There are a handful of assignments with deadlines halfway through a semester.

Additional entry requirements: Applicants should also have achieved a minimum of three GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above. UCAS tariff points from music graded exams are also accepted (highest achieved per instrument (grade 6 and above), awarded by ABRSM, London College of Music, Trinity College, Rock School). English Language requirements: All applicants must meet the minimum English Language requirement, as set by the conservatoire. For UK applicants this is GCSE English Language at grade C/4.
