You will study academic and technical modules broadening your understanding of policing, psychology, crime, criminal law and the justice system. Course Details - Modules
The Foundation Degree is a 2 year programme. In each year you will study 120 credits over two semesters. The course comprises of mainly 20 credit modules which cover areas such as:

The Evolution of the Police (20 credits)
This module will develop knowledge and understanding of the history, roles and responsibilities of the police. The focus will be on the developments from its creation and the current roles and responsibilities in modern day society.
Psychology and Crime (20 credits)
This module will develop knowledge and understanding of the different theories of psychology and crime. The focus will be on how these theories can help us understand offending behaviour.
Personal Development (20 credits)
This module will develop knowledge and understanding of professional development of students and of police officers. The focus will be on reflection, self improvement, academic skills and professional skills.
Crime in England and Wales (20 credits)
This module will develop knowledge and understanding of the main forms of crime in England and Wales. The focus will be on the definitions of the key crimes that police constables face in England and Wales.
Models of Policing (20 credits)
This module will develop knowledge and understanding of the different models of policing. The focus will be on what these models are, their practical application and evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Command and Control (20 credits)
This module will develop knowledge and understanding of leadership. teamwork skills and the principles of command and control. The focus will be on effective communication, teamwork and decision making.
Year 2 (Level 50
Criminology and Crime Prevention (20 credits)
This module will develop knowledge and understanding of the key theories in relation to crime and deviance, crime prevention and criminology. The focus will be on crime, victimisation and harm.
Police Powers and Procedure (20 credits)
This module will develop knowledge and understanding of the key police powers and procedures. The focus will be on the police powers and how these are used in practice.
Research Methods and Skills (20 credits)
This module will develop knowledge and understanding of the key theories in relation to research. The focus will be on methods of research, reviewing literature and reflection.
Criminal Justice (20 credits)
This module will develop knowledge and understanding of the key theories in relation to criminal justice. The focus will be on the criminal justice models and agencies.
Youth Crime and Justice (20 credits)
This module will develop knowledge and understanding of the key theories in relation to youth crime and youth justice. The focus will be on patterns of youth offending and the reasons behind it.
Contemporary Issues in Policing (20 credits)
This module will develop knowledge and understanding of the key policies in relation to workplace practice. The focus will be on accountability, ethics of police constables and regulation.
