Course Summary

The LL.B (Hons) Senior Status is a 2 year full-time LL.B. It is only available for students who have an undergraduate degree. It is aimed at students who wish to convert to the study of law but want to study over a 2 year period (rather than go down the route of the PgDL). It leads to the award of an LL.B which meets the academic stage of training for the BPC/LLM Bar Practice and also allows progression onto the LLM Legal Practice (SQE1&2). Students will study the foundation subjects but have the benefit of being able to select 4 law option subjects so as to enhance career development prospects.

Course Details - Modules

There are two semesters per academic year. Each semester is 15 weeks long; 12 weeks face-to-face tuition, one week consolidation/revision and two weeks to complete the assessments. Students study three modules per semester. All modules are worth 20 credits. The course starts with a one week freshers/induction week. Year 1: All modules are worth 20 credits. Compulsory modules are: • Common Law Method & Ethics (Level 4) • Contract Law (Level 4) • The Law of Tort (Level 4) • Public Law (Level 4) • Criminal Law (Level 4) and one optional module from: • European Union Law (Level 5) or • Business Law 1 (Level 5) Year 2: In Semester 1 students study the following compulsory 20 credit modules: • Land Law (Level 5) • Equity & Trusts (Level 6) and one Level 6 optional module from: • Civil Dispute Resolution • Business Law 2 • Graduate and Employability Skills • International Commercial Law • Mental Health and Mental Capacity Law. In Semester 2 the students study three 20 credit option modules (all Level 6) from the following list • Family Law • Employment Law • Real Estate • Wills & Succession • Human Rights • Criminal Litigation and Evidence • Graduate and Employability Skills • International Commercial Law • Civil Dispute Resolution • Business Law 2 • Legal Technology • Legal Innovation and Entrepreneurship • Canadian Constitutional Law (London only) • Foundations of Canadian Law (London only) • A research project (worth 40 credits).

Course Details – Assessment Method

A range of assessment methods will be used. Some will be by examination. Some will be by coursework (which may be essay, project report or portfolio) and some by way of oral presentation. This range of assessment methods reflects the practical nature of the programme and aligns the assessment with the learning outcomes of the programme. A mock assessment will be included.
