Studying Psychology you learn about people – how they think and what they do, perceive and feel. A scientific understanding of people opens the door to a wide range of careers, from clinical and forensic psychologist to social work and roles in marketing, local government, public relations and human resources.
Choose Psychology with a Placement Year at Kent because:
• our degree offers a high level of professional skills and can be the first step to becoming a Chartered Psychologist; it’s accredited by the British Psychological Society
• our graduates move on to successful careers in teaching, social welfare, the probation service, the NHS and the Home Office
• we are a leading centre for social psychology, with strengths in cognitive, forensic and developmental psychology leading to a wide choice of modules
• you’ll have access to outstanding resources including physiological measurement, brain stimulation and virtual reality laboratories as well as eye-tracker technology and EEG equipment for monitoring brain activity
• you can gain practical experience through our research participation, research experience and work experience schemes.
On this degree, you study biological and general psychology, social and developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, child development and personality. There are also options to study forensic, business and clinical psychology and you are supported to develop the statistical skills you need.
You spend a year on placement where you undertake project work in organisations such as the NHS, the Prison Service or a research establishment.
In your final year, you complete a psychology research project and choose further modules of particular interest to you from a range covering areas such as mental health, evolution and universal motivation, understanding people with learning disabilities, the neuroscience of cognitive disorders and business psychology.
