Course Summary

**This course is professionally accredited by IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) and BCS (the Chartered Institute for IT). As well as your main Imperial degree, you will also receive the award of the Associateship of the City and Guilds of London Institute (ACGI) on completion of this course.** With the spread of computing procedures and mathematical ideas into many areas, there is high demand for professionals who are expert in both. Our Mathematics and Computer Science degrees are mathematical courses orientated towards computing science. Taught jointly by the Departments of Computing and Mathematics, they provide a firm foundation in mathematics, particularly in pure mathematics, numerical analysis and statistics. They also cover all the essentials of computer science, with an emphasis on developing software, as well as more theoretical topics. This makes the courses particularly suited to mathematically-able students with interests in both subjects. During the first two years you take core modules from both departments and complete project work, with the chance to choose some optional modules in the second year. In the third year you can choose from a wide variety of optional modules offered by the departments to suit your interests, and will also complete a substantial individual project. The high level of shared content means transfer between any of our Mathematics and Computer Science courses is usually possible at any time during the first year. If you are an international student, transferring to a different course could have an impact on your Tier 4 visa, but our International Student Support Team are here to help advise and support you.
