Course Summary

The aim of this dynamic new degree aims to encourage critical and creative perspectives within photography, whilst developing professional practices for the creative industries. The programme encourages and values imaginative and individual approaches to all forms of image capture and in the first year students will be encouraged to engage with multiple subjects in a variety of contexts in a variety of lens media. At Level 4, students are introduced to visual language perception, semiotics and design psychology for example. These concepts are then translated into both arts based and commercially relevant projects in a range of collaborative and individual portfolio based projects. A range of equipment and software will be explored at length, both in the still image and time based representations, encouraging free thinking and inventive practice throughout the first year. Creative expression and alternative viewpoints will combine with technical skills and theories before students opt for more specific pathways at level 5. Practical work is mixed with theoretical and critical study, lectures, seminars, group critiques and individual tutorials. You will visit galleries and attend workshops and talks from high profile practitioners. Reflecting the art school ethos and guided by active, award-winning practitioners you’ll explore and develop creative, technical, and professional skills
