Course Details – Assessment Method

Formative and summative assessment are regarded as positive learning tools. Feedback and formative developmental reflection is core to students' learning and offers students clear guidance with regard to future development. There will be opportunity to provide students with comprehensive oral feedback through tutorials, alongside written forms. Self and peer-evaluation constitute an important part of formative assessment and, on occasion, of the formal summative assessment process. Practical assessments take place within various environments ranging from the studio, theatre with live audiences, theatre for live streaming or live event spaces within the community. Students will complete and submit portfolios of work ranging from practical recordings, research, correspondence, creative output ideas and critical reflections to evidence their creative process. Academic work is submitted through essays, critical reviews and other formats such as blogs, seminars and reports to ensure that students are knowledgeable on a broad range of presentation style. Academic work is submitted electronically via VLE. Other methods of submission include verbal presentations, VIVA Voce critical evaluations, and practical external events. Practical work is supported by research, both academic and experiential, and students are expected to acknowledge and participate in research practices. This ensures that students have the critical knowledge necessary to justify their actions and reflect on their outcomes. Assessment tasks are provided to the students within a module handbook. The details of task assignments link assessment tasks to module learning outcomes specifically related to assessment submissions, details of the task including submission requirements, and grading criteria.
