Course Details – Assessment Method
The FD Electronic Music Production offers a breadth of practical, theoretical work-related and academic learning opportunities from an ‘inexhaustibly rich field of study’ (QAA Benchmarks for Music 2016). Students will study and diverse range of practices involved in electronic music applied to the world of music production. This is an alternative offering different to the study of general music and audio production. The central focuses are electronic music production, library music creation, electronic performance and DJ’ing, independent creation and industry standard briefs, with client requirements and time constraints applied. Sound in this instance will be realised through synthesis (including modular), studio and field location recording, signal processing, sampling, and the manipulation of found and prepared. Core transferable skills related to existing programes such as research as practice, audio recording, cultural history and analysis, composition, critical and self reflection, presentation styles, collaborative practice and preparation for employment underpin the award, preparing graudates for the working world. Work-related learning is a dominant feature of the programme, with a large percentage of the modules including practical development and assessment directly linked to professional practices. In addition students will develop the means to self-promote through social networking, enterpreneurship and client-based project work. They will work individually, in small groups, large groups, with clients, with students from other disciplines, collaborating with other creative arts courses and with external companies, on their own initiated projects, and through guided learning. The course has been developed with the ‘knowledge that music is multidisciplary, multicultural, fostering creativity and craftsmanship; it has links with mathematics, science, cultural history, social sciences and psychology’.
