Graphic Design with optional Integrated Foundation Entry
Hugh Baird College
Graphic Design with optional Integrated Foundation Entry
Course Summary
This Foundation Degree with Integrated Foundation Entry is designed for those who want to study for the foundation degree but don’t have the necessary formal qualifications to start just yet. The foundation entry modules include: Art & Design Studies, Design Investigation, Specialism Skills and Drawing and Image Communication, giving you the opportunity to explore a range of design practices before progressing to Year One of the Foundation Degree in your chosen specialism.
The course will go on to facilitate the discovery and development of your strengths within the design arena, helping you choose a preferred specialism in either; graphic design, illustration, advertising, motion graphic design, brand consultancy, design consultancy, or studio management.
This programme consists of practical projects covering multiple modules, with a self-initiated final major project that will be displayed at the end of course exhibition. The course allows you to develop individuality, experiment with innovative ways of creative and visual thinking, explore the breadth of possibilities within art and design in 2 and 3 dimensions, and pursue a sustained investigation into your chosen specialism.
At the centre of the course will be the ‘Design Studio’, a real-life working environment, where undergraduates will work on ‘live’ and realistic briefs, to industry standard deadlines, as well as liaising with clients and staff to underpin professional learning. The course will help develop confidence and competence to communicate design solutions, through both print-based and new media graphic disciplines. Personal and professional development will provide opportunities for students to develop a range of skills, techniques and attributes essential for successful performance in a working life environment.
