Why Sport and Exercise Nutrition? This is an integrated Master’s four year degree, designed to combine both undergraduate and postgraduate study into a single degree. This is a requirement to be able to register as a Sport and Exercise Nutritionist on the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr) held by the British Dietetic Association. Eating healthily and being physically active are important for wellbeing, and good nutrition can help to achieve optimal performance in sport. Nutrition is increasingly important in elite sport, personal training, and community-based initiatives, so this course could lead to an exciting and rewarding career. This course could give you the skills to work as a sports nutritionist, physical activity coordinator, health advisor, sports development officer, personal trainer, exercise referral specialist, or after further training, a teacher in educational settings. How will you learn? * You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of biological sciences, nutrition, exercise and health, and sports performance. You'll study anatomy and physiology, fitness conditioning, digestion and metabolism, and psychology. * In your second year, you’ll go on a work placement, which will provide you with the opportunity to apply your skills in a real-world context. * In your fourth year you will study Sport and Exercise Nutrition at a postgraduate level. * You’ll use excellent facilities, including our nutrition food science labs, sport and exercise science labs, and our sport and fitness centre. Professional links and accreditations: This course is approved by the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr - http://www.senr.org.uk/), meaning that successful completion of this degree acts as a first step towards Graduate Registration with the SENr (a nationally recognised quality mark for your work in sports and exercise nutrition). Please note that in order to become eligible for Graduate Registration, you would need to progress to the fourth year postgraduate study, and obtain a postgraduate diploma. Reflecting our commitment to equipping you with the skills, knowledge and experience needed to effectively transition into roles in the sector, this course is endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA). This enables you to gain industry recognised standards and qualifications, including Gym Instructor, Personal Trainer and Working with People with Long-Term Conditions, that are recognised by major employers in the sector aligned to your degree. You can also apply for student membership of CIMSPA. The cost of student membership is just £5 per student (83% saving), which will enable you to access e-learning, guest lectures, digital newsletters and magazines, and work placement, volunteering and job opportunities. On successful completion of the course, you’ll be eligible to apply for CIMSPA graduate membership, at your own expense. The nature of the assessment varies from module to module, and mirrors the modes of communication expected of graduates in this field, for example, report writing, presentations and essays. Assessment will include of coursework, practice/ competency based learning and examinations.
