Mechanical engineers are vital in today’s modern world. They design, manufacture and operate a huge range of products, processes and services. From high-performance race cars through to lifesaving medical equipment, from railways to environmentally sustainable technology, none of this would be possible without mechanical engineers. So if you’re hoping for a career that puts you right at the heart of technological developments effecting all of society, this course could be the perfect start to change the world we live in. Successfully completing the MEng course allows you to gain a deeper understanding of the subject than the BEng course. It also means that you graduate with a Postgraduate level qualification, which can give you an advantage in the job market. This STEM course is designed to give you a thorough understanding in the principles and fundamentals of mechanical engineering. You’ll get involved in practical work, projects and problem-solving too. We’ll cover a range of topics within the subject, including mathematics, mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and materials. You’ll be supported in developing your understanding of the value of mechanical engineering in many sectors, including: * Power generation * Manufacturing and process industries * Transport systems, for example, road, rail, air and marine * Bio-medical * Aerospace * Product design and development * Engineering services We want to help you go on to become a leader in your chosen field. So during the final year of your integrated Master’s we’ll study modules relating to management. We take a broader view of the commercial aspects of the industry, and study finance for managers. We’ll also explore advanced analytical skills and give you the option to take a module in either new product development or dimensional measurement. It’s all about encouraging you to think strategically and develop your leadership skills. You'll learn through EnABLE (Engineering in an Activity Based Learning Environment), our new initiative that provides you with an opportunity to work in teams with other students to solve real engineering challenges and develop skills relevant to industry. While you’re studying we’ll aim to give you as much real-world experience as possible. You’ll be able to choose a year-long placement, which could give you some great experience in the industry, and help build up your contacts too, plus your Final Year has been designed to help you gain the confidence you need to become a leader in this vital area. We’ll also give you the opportunity to take part in national competitions like the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Formula Student, UAS and the Railway Challenge (or comparable design and build team projects). Professional links and accreditation: This course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE - http://www.imeche.org/). This means it fully meets the academic requirements for Chartered Engineer status (CEng - https://www.imeche.org/membership-registration/become-a-member/chartered-engineer). The MEng qualification is regarded as the professional benchmark for engineers. An extension to the BEng award, it gives those who show potential the opportunity to study Master’s level modules and attain an enhanced undergraduate award which meets the academic requirements for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. Additional costs: You’ll need to cover the cost of your safety boots, which are a compulsory requirement. The cost will be dependent on where you purchase your boots, but typically you can purchase them online from between £8.99 and £19.99.

A Levels must include A2 Mathematics (Use of Mathematics is not an acceptable A Level) and at least one other Science/Technology subject (or equivalent qualifications) from the list of A Levels.
