Why Business with Logistics and Supply Chain Management?
Logistics and supply chains are at the forefront of our national economies and require managers who can face the challenges of an ever-changing business environment and seek out ways to continually improve. Career paths in this sector are diverse and attract those with a broad range of skills, such as analytical, planning, decision-making, people and process management, innovative thinking, and communication skills. The Business with Logistics and Supply Chain Management is a professional programme which has been developed to provide you with the workplace skills required for a career in this sector.
In the first year you’ll study the building blocks of business and you’ll start to examine how leading companies organise and manage their logistics and supply chains to ensure success. We will also develop your skills in leadership, decision making and focus on topics such as planning and control of operations, managing sourcing, manufacturing and physical logistics, and looking at ways which these can be done. This course offers a credited Personal and Academic Development Module, which provides on-going guidance on developing your personal and employability skills and an opportunity to complete a placement year as we want to make you employment-ready so you can take the next step in your career.
This course is part of the full NOVUS scheme, an innovation developed between the university and the NOVUS Trust. The Trust is an industry-led organisation that focuses on developing talent in the transport, logistics and supply chain management sectors. Being part of the scheme opens up wider opportunities for work experience and networking with professionals in the sector through access to a company mentor, as well as a guaranteed third year work placement and guaranteed graduate job if you secure a 2:1 or above. The full NOVUS scheme runs alongside the Business with Logistics and Supply Chain Management course. How will I learn?
You will learn through practical application and delivered lectures, workshops, seminars and group work sessions.
* If you are selected for the NOVUS scheme, you’ll have the opportunity to be coached by a mentor drawn from industry, tasked with assisting you with your professional development. So you’ll be dealing with someone who works in the industry on a daily basis, and you’ll be able to take part in industry-led seminars and site visits. In addition, you will have a University personal tutor, guiding you in personal and academic development.
* The NOVUS Trust will help you take things further, provided you secure a 2:1 degree and complete all your coursework, they will guarantee an offer of employment with one of the companies involved when you graduate. Recent companies involved include PZ Cussons, ARLA, Muller and Morrisons.
* NOVUS also gives you the chance to take paid placements during the summer break, and a placement year with a leading employer. Previous students have taken placements with Sainsbury’s, ASOS, Travis Perkins, Nestle, Muller and many others.

You’ll explore subjects such as Sustainable Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Planning and Control, Operations Management, Understanding Organisational Behaviour, Managing People, Procurement and Supply Chain Strategy.

This course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).
In addition, you can register with Chartered Management Institute and you’ll have the opportunity to achieve a CMI qualification in Management and Leadership through no additional study or assessment.
