This degree builds on the industry-recognised HNC/D programmes. All first year entrants will start on the HNC and the entry requirements are therefore for this programme. Successful completion will allow you to progress to the second year of the HND. Following achievement of the HND, you can progress to the third year of the degree. Applicants already holding a relevant HNC qualification can apply for direct entry to the second year. When completing your application make sure you choose year two. Applicants already holding a relevant HND qualification can apply for direct entry to year three, again where this is the case please make sure you choose year three when completing your application. This honours degree gives you the opportunity to acquire skills and develop your individual creative identity within the emerging practices of contemporary art. Working through a range of practical projects you will develop a clear understanding of the theories, concepts and principles of contemporary art practice. You will interpret and contextualise theory, creative and technical skills to produce effective artwork that engages within the art world and within the wider community and context of contemporary art. Your studio practice, work placements and collaborative projects will give you the opportunity to define your own creativity within the full context of contemporary art, health, recreation, and education. You will also have the opportunity to enhance your experience through national and international trips.

This is a Top-Up Degree whereby Year 1 of the course comprises an HNC and in some cases Year 2 an HND. Courses which comprise an HN award as their first and/or second year will be charged the Higher National fee for the first and/or second year, increasing to the degree fee rate after this. RUK students will be charged the RUK HN fee for the Higher National portion of the programme and the degree portion will be charge at the RUK degree fee, the fourth year of consecutive study on the programme is free. EU/EEA and Swiss nationals starting their study in Scotland from academic year 2021-22, who do not have settled status, will be considered as international for fee purposes. For 2021-22, the university offered an automatic scholarship for the degree (3rd) year and the 4th year of study free for those studying full-time, on continuous study.
