Course Summary

The BA (Hons) Creative Writing provides you with a sequence of modules through which you can develop your knowledge and practice of the subject. The programme is designed to develop your understanding and practice of Creative Writing to a high level, and enable you to create and think reflectively about creative writing texts. You practice writing a range of forms, including fiction prose, poetry, drama and creative non-fiction; you will be encouraged to look at your work and that of others in a critical and reflective way. Many texts considered are by authors from beyond the British Isles (the USA, the Caribbean, Africa and India, for example). You will be introduced to a range of techniques that are central to creative writing which will equip you with the skills needed to become sophisticated practitioners. You will encounter many works from within the traditional literary canon, and many unusual works from outside of it. You will develop in-depth subject knowledge and a range of important transferable skills. Our degree will help you develop into creative writing practitioners with an excellent awareness of commercial markets for your work and give you skills that will enhance your employability for a wide range of roles.
