The Electrical and Electronic Engineering HND (RQF) course, awarded by Pearson, enables students with the Electrical and Electronics Engineering HNC qualification to extend their knowledge and further specialise in the electrical and electronics field.
The course is linked to professional standards and focusses on the application of the principles being learnt at this level. With a focus on analytical techniques, theoretical modelling and practical investigation, students are encouraged to solve vocational and work-based problems.
Students obtaining this HND level will be able to perform effectively in their chosen field and will have the qualities necessary for employment in situations requiring the exercise of personal responsibility and decision-making.

Professional body accreditation: Successful completion of this course satisfies the academic requirements for the Engineering Council’s Engineering Technician standard. Upon completion of the course, students are able to refer to themselves as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) and apply for Engineering Council membership. This is a classroom based course.
For part-time students, the course is studied over a period of two years. Attendance is 1 day per week. Per week, the part-time course workload will include:
7 hours of lectures
2.5 hours of workshops and simulation sessions
0.5 hours per fortnight of one-to-one meetings
Over the course of the year, you will spend 85% of your time in timetabled teaching and learning activity:

All of our teaching staff are experienced in the field. All students are allocated a personal tutor who will be your first point of communication should you have any queries or concerns. Regular 1:1 sessions will take place within the classroom where there will be the opportunity to discuss your course and progress.
This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to pursue a career in engineering, or obtain the necessary skills needed to progress your current engineering career and operate as an Engineering Technician. The course also provides the foundation for further qualifications including foundation degrees and B.Eng degree courses. An HND qualification is accepted by some universities as the first two years of a bachelor’s degree B.Eng (Hons). The course has been designed to meet the requirements of the engineering industry and is underpinned by the research knowledge and industry experience of our staff.
At the end of the course, students should be able to demonstrate a detailed knowledge and practical application of a range of general and specialised engineering theories, and they should be able to apply these directly to their working situations. Students will have an appreciation of contemporary theory and also understand their responsibilities in regards to cost, sustainability and the rapid change that takes place within world-class engineering.

The course operates on a modular basis with each module carrying 15 academic credits, with the exception of the research project, which is worth 30 credits.
Part-time students take modules worth 30 credits per semester. The full HND qualification is equivalent to 120 credits.
Your overall grade for the course, and your HND classification, will be based on the marks obtained in all modules.
Course Details – Assessment Method
This course provides you with the opportunity to test your understanding of the subject informally before you complete the formal assessments that count towards your final mark. Each module normally contains at least one piece of practice, or formative, assessment for which you will receive feedback from your tutor. Practice assessments are developmental and any grades you receive for them will not count towards your module mark.
There will be formal, or summative, assessment during, or at the end of, each module. Formal assessment will be solely through a range of coursework assessments such as essays, reports, portfolios, presentations and projects. The grades from your formal assessments will count towards your module mark.
You will receive feedback on all practice assessments and on formal assessments undertaken by coursework within three weeks of your submission. Feedback is intended to help you learn and you are encouraged to discuss it with your module tutor.
You must pass all modules in order to gain your qualification. Students passing a module will be given a pass, merit or distinction grade.
